THE BID BULLETIN OCTOBER

ITS NEARLY CHRISTMAS!!!!

With Christmas just around the corner Kendal Business Improvement District has been busy improving Kendal in time for the festive season;

Parking Initiatives:

Kendal BID listened to you when some of you said that you loved the park all day for £1.20 on Sunday’s initiative in conjunction with SLDC. It’s on again in October and November. We also listened to many small retailers who said that they could not open on a Sunday because it was their only down time so over November we have introduced a FREE Park and Ride for every Friday and Saturday. You should have received flyers and postcards with these details on- if you haven’t drop me a line.

After the success of last year, it’s also FREE Park and Ride from the 4th -24th December, again please tell your customers!

AA Signs will help people find their way to K Village.

IF YOU WOULD ALSO LIKE TO PLACE SOME FLYERS OR OFFERS ON THE BUS OR ON KENDAL’S BUBB.AL APP THEN PLEASE GET IN TOUCH AND WE WILL ARRANGE IT FOR YOU.

CHRISTMAS FORTNIGHT:

Kendal BID thought it was important to provide activities over the run up to Christmas so…

  • 11th, 12th and 13th Kendal Market Place – Christmas Fair in association with Market Square Group. This will incorporate local traders first and foremost, places are filling up quickly but as last year if any retailers would like to  ATTEND THEN PLEASE CONTACT Lesley on events@marketsquaregroup.com
  • 18th, 19th and 20th throughout Kendal- funky street entertainment over the long weekend with funky man size Christmas Pigeons, naughty angels on stilts and a mystical juggler! Made In Cumbria will also be running their Christmas Farmers Market on the 18th.
  • 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd December 4 magnificent Son et Lumiere shows at 4 corners of the town created by our school children and in association with Inspira.

St Georges Church      Parish Church      County Hall     Café Nero (market Place)

After last year, Kendal BID felt that there were a number of mixed messages in the marketing of Christmas events so this year we have used the same design as Kendal Town Council and marketing for the event will be in the form of extensive radio advertising in the local area and further afield, look out for the park and ride bus, 10,000 maps will be produced and cards, flyers and posters have been distributed by hand.

ALSO..

Kendal BID has also fitted all the infrastructure for the Christmas lights now installed at the bottom of Stricklandgate and Sandes Avenue. FOR THE FIRST TIME lights will go on in these areas along with the grand light switch on for the rest of the town. We have also invested in solar powered Christmas trees for the lampposts on Blackhall Road. Kendal BID is also a sponsor of the Christmas lights switch on and the Christmas Tree.

FUNDED ACTIVITIES

In the last newsletter we told you of the funding provided for Paines Plough productions, they were a tremendous success with visitor numbers from outside the LA9 area being the largest group to attend. It also encouraged many people to download the BUBB.AL APP. It was a missed opportunity for many businesses to get free exposure via the BUBB.AL APP and the information being sent out by Brewery Arts Centre.

Good news for the town with The Lakes International Comic art Festival hitting an all-time high of visitor numbers and income injection into the town. The WINDOW ART TRAIL for the second year in a row was funded by KENDAL BID LTD, many businesses who have participated and benefitted from the window art trail have not realised that it has been made possible by their BID Levy.  The Windows Project, for many businesses, created much needed exposure through people walking the TRAIL, again there was a big surge of people downloading the BUBB.AL APP looking for things to keep them in Kendal.

BUBB.AL is amazing technology and we have been given the opportunity to be the FIRST town in the UK to trial it. A linked up approach by Kendal BID means that all funded activity will have to utilise this APP where possible. It is your chance, as a business in ANY SECTOR to get free exposure, take up from businesses is slow and we understand it is daunting for many. Most of you will have received the free BUBB.AL window sticker and we are just about to engage a media person (in conjunction with BUBB.AL see Westmorland Gazette 5th November for details) to hand hold any business that wants FREE exposure. All the work will be done for you. Please contact us if you want to be part of it.

The KENDAL GIFTCARD

Many of you accepted the TEMPORARY Kendal Gift card, it wasn’t ideal in that format, however by next spring we hope to have the VISA version that will work in ANY BUSINESS that has a visa machine. Thanks to all those businesses that participated and accepted cards.
