Meet the Team 2020

In December 2020, the Kendal BID Board changed several personnel. Josh Macaulay was unanimously voted on as Chair and Nick Pitt has taken up the position as Vice Chair..

We are pleased to announce that Richard Moore remains on the Board, moving into our second term. we lost a few people in 2019;

Derek Jones- has had to concentrate on Better Leisure over Covid

Chris Taylor- has moved out of the area on a special 2 year posting

Jan Nicholson- had left the Board but has been persuaded to rejoin the Board to add her experience and assist the new team.

We welcome the following new members;

The Board will meet on the first Tuesday of every month


The BID Project and Business Manager is Simon Thomas and was appointed alongside Administration Manager Carly Jones by the BID Board of Directors in December.

This group is responsible for delivering the BID Business Plan on behalf of the town.  The BID Directors are:

Josh Macaulay, Director & Chair (Representing Small Business)


Josh heads the team which runs Westmorland Homecare, Ye Olde Fleece Inn and The Duke of Cumberland. He brings a huge enthusiasm for our town and a keen business approach to his new job as Chair of Kendal BID. Josh has previously served as a Director.



Richard Moore, Director (Representing Office and Professional Services)

Richard has been managing partner, at Temple Heelis for almost 10 years and has seen remarkable change during that time, both with the needs of the firm’s own business, but also those of the businesses he advises. He brings, to the BID Board, his experience in running a firm and advising businesses.



Brent Ainsworth, Director (Representing Small Business)

Brent is half of the team behind Relish No37 on Branthwaite Brow and brings a wealth of small business experience to the Board.


Nick Pitt, Director & Vice Chair (Representing Large Retailers)

Nick has 20 years in retail asset management, previously managing nearly a million sq ft of retail in Wolverhampton and worked as an associate director in Savills.

He also worked for Lloyds of London for a number of years after serving in the Household Cavalry regiment specifically the Blues and Royals.

Currently employed by Praxis, responsible for a number of shopping centres including Westmorland in Kendal.


Aaron Gilby, Director  (Representing Large Retailer)

Aaron is the manager of WH Smith Kendal and Barrow. He has over 10 years of knowledge in the retail sector. He is a keen fell Walker of the Lakes and loves the area, so much so he relocated across from East Yorkshire. He is very keen to help grow tourism in Kendal and show the world what the town is about.

Lynda Johnston, Director ( Representing Small Business )

Lynda owns and runs “Delicious” on Stramongate and brings many years business experience to the Board.

Jan Nicholson, Director ( Representing Tourism Services )

Jan has come back to the Board as a Director and we welcome her constant and infectious enthusiasm for Kendal. Jan set up Kendal Hostel and is also a Blue Badge Guide. Jan is the Director responsible for welcoming coach operators and their drivers to Kendal.

Tina Dulson, Director ( Representing Hospitality )

Tina runs and owns 19 The Wine Bar on Lowther Street, and also runs a Management Training business with her husband, working with some very high profile business clients in the UK and Europe. Tina brings years of marketing and problem solving experience to the Board.



Simon Thomas, Kendal BID Project and Business Manager.

Simon is a former Director and Chair of Kendal BID, and brings a lot of project management experience as well as operational skills running a BID. He is a strong vocal supporter of Kendal, and a passionate advocate for Buy Local.

Simon also runs Kendal’s Blind Bus Driver Speakeasy when he’s not working for Kendal BID.

Carly Jones, Administration Manager.

Carly has lots of administration experience and a very positive attitude, as well as plenty of versatility and experience in retail and hospitality.
