Progress Update

Kendal BID has committed funds towards Kendal Food Festival and the Lakes International Comic Arts Festival (Windows Trail). We are also working hard to provide a ‘kitbag’ of support for festivals in the future and have already funded a Road Marshals’ course to provide a bank of trained volunteer road marshals for Kendal

Business Review

For some of the business community it has been once again a testing year and for others a fantastic one, with turnover in some retail outlets showing significant improvements. As a young BID zone, Kendal BID needs to understand how you have done and what you think we should be doing over the coming years to support you. We have a lot of things in the pipeline and we are confident that these will start to impact on all sectors, but we need information from you. Please take 5 minutes to fill in the Business Review Form and return it to us.

Date for Your Diary

We really need to talk to you!! We need to understand if the things we have planned for the future of Kendal are what you see as being beneficial and worthwhile. Please join us for on the 4th March for a great way to be part of your town’s future. More details to follow!!!

Social Media

Kendal BID has recognised that we need one face for the consumer and one face for businesses and we are working on building up a social media presence on the premise that everyone knows about Kendal Mint Cake! Over the last few months we have worked towards increasing our social media presence on Twitter and Facebook under the guise of @Kendalmintplus (Kendal: Mint cake & more!). We will follow this with a consumer facing website in the near future but in the meantime please comment, connect and take part by following @kendalmintplus and remember that @kendalBID is also there for you.

Consumer Research

It is important to understand how local visitors move around our town and what they do when they are here so we can help them get the most out of their visit to Kendal town . We have teamed up with Kendal Futures to undertake a small study based on the use of a number of strategically placed beacons around the town and the use of a smart app. Many businesses have been approached to house these beacons and have graciously accepted. The Beacons should be installed and collating information by the end of February so please join in and encourage your family, friends and work colleagues to do so too. You can download the app today on you get rewarded for doing simply going about your business!

GeoTask – Kendal’s Consumer Behaviour Study

Kendal BID and Kendal Futures are working with GeoTask to launch a new consumer behaviour study in the town.

The study tracks the behaviour patterns of local people through Smartphone technology, as they walk around Kendal, visiting shops, cafes, offices and attractions. The study will enable the town to:

  • Find out more about how Kendal’s visitors behave based on the time of day, day of week, weather or whether any special events are taking place.
  • Understand where consumers shop, eat and visit revealing opportunities for future partnerships and cross promotions.
  • Identify which stores shoppers are visiting, which areas of the town they are absent from and gather deeper insights with post-visit surveys.
  • Gain insight into the other places that shoppers visit before and after they visit Kendal, as well as the distance they are willing to travel to enable more effective marketing of Kendal in future.
  • Understand the key engagement touch points within Kendal to increase share of footfall across a wider geographic area.

How can you get involved?

Join the panel

  • Join Kendal’s location panel by downloading the free GeoTask App on GeoTask or Android Play Store. (iOS version will be released by Apple shortly.)
  • The App records your phones movements and helps your town understand consumer behaviour patterns. This measures the mobile phones location persistently in the background. The location of the phone is captured using GPS and proximity beacons.
  • All behaviour data is anonymous and you will gain reward points for sharing your data and taking part in surveys. You will not receive any marketing from any other companies. Opt out at any time by uninstalling the App.
  • Location analytics are most valuable when a single phones data is combined with data from hundreds of other devices, not just one. Therefore all data is aggregated and is anonymous when reported to third parties.

Local businesses

Local shops and businesses are needed to host a small ‘proximity beacon’ in their shop windows. The beacon measures just 2-3 inches square and emits a signal which can be picked up by the location data in the mobile phones of panel members. It is battery operated, unobtrusive and will only track the movements of those panel members who have opted in to the study.

Encourage your customers, staff, friends and family to take part and join the panel by downloading the App.

GeoTask Privacy Pledge

GeoTask is committed to protecting privacy

  • Explicit permission is required from all panellists before GeoTask can obtain any location data from the GeoTask app. GeoTask requires a double opt-in, using plain and clear language.
  • All panellists must accept the app’s request for location, provide approval to share location and device data with GeoTask and review the terms of service and privacy policy.
  • Opting out is as simple as uninstalling the app, or stopping location permissions.
