Kendal’s priorities can be summarised as the 4Cs:

A Confident Kendal
A Clean Kendal
A Convenient Kendal
A Competitive Kendal

Following the devastating floods in December 2015, Kendal BID worked with key strategic partners to support those businesses directly affected by flooding.

Confident and Competitive had an overall budget of £32,000. This helped fund:

  • A number of local radio adverts with the aim to increase consumer awareness of Kendal. These were featured on The Bay and Lakeland Radio over strategic periods
  • A Communications Assistant in order to help drive regular and consistent traffic to both our Twitter and Facebook feeds
  • Continued support of SWIPII – a loyalty card scheme. SWIPII gives smaller businesses some of the loyalty, power and advantages that many larger businesses enjoy at a corporate level.
  • Festivals and events in 2015 and 2016, both in terms of soft and hard support, such as direct cash contribution.

Clean, Safe and Attractive had an overall budget of £20,000. This helped fund:

  • The extension of Kendal Christmas Lights
  • A Christmas Market and various events in the run-up to Christmas
  • A number of marketing/PR projects to help the town after the floods.

Convenient and Accessible had an overall budget of £50,000. This helped fund:

  • Reduced parking charges during October and November
  • A free Park and Ride scheme from K Village during December
  • The launch of BUBB.AL  a marketing app to help businesses communicate with customers quickly and cheaply
  • Cycle parking improvement around Kendal for both residents and cycle tourists
  • Subsidise the 106 bus service into Kendal from outlying villages
